In Advent Children, Marlene's outfit includes a white turtle neck sweater with no sleeves and a long white skirt that hits below the knees. Her style is cute, but plain. Her shoes are a pale grey/brown color and made to resemble converse. They look rather worn out. She has socks that stick up and out from her high topped shoes.

Overall Personality:
Although Marlene is only six years old, she is incredibly smart for her age. She's always able to figure out what's going on, and not much gets past her. Even with all the destruction in the world, she still manages to keep her child-like innocence. Marlene knows just what to say when she's giving someone a pep talk. She's also not to bad when it comes to telling people like it is.
Along with being smart, Marlene is also very kind hearted. She'll do anything a six year old can do to help out the people she cares about. She's not one to just leave a friend behind. Although frightened easily by the bad guys, she's still pretty tough when it comes to things like keeping her family together. After all, it's one of the things Marlene considers most important in her life. She may be small, but she is one brave cookie.

History:
Final Fantasy VII
Marlene is the daughter of Barret's friends Dyne and Eleanor. Barret had taken Marlene in as his own daughter after his friend Dyne, his hometown Corel, and loved ones were destroyed by Shinra troops. As Marlene was less than a year old when her town was burned to the ground and her mother was killed, she has no memory of her biological parents.
In the game's storyline Marlene is four years old. She takes it upon herself to care for Tifa Lockhart's 7th Heaven bar when Tifa joins Cloud Strife and Barret on an AVALANCHE mission. Later, Shinra destroys Sector 7 and Aeris Gainsborough takes Marlene to safety while the AVALANCHE fights to defend the pillar that supports the plate above. Shinra follow her and Aeris gives herself to the Turks in exchange for Marlene's safety.
Marlene is then left with Elmyra, Aeris's adoptive mother, and is later held hostage by the Shinra spy Cait Sith to force Cloud to cooperate with him on their journey to the Temple of the Ancients. She later receives the news of Aeris's death at Sephiroth's hands by Reeve. Marlene appears one last time at the end of the game, sensing Aeris's presence just before the Lifestream emerges to aid in the conflict between Holy and Meteor.
Advent Children/Advent Children Complete
Marlene appears in the CG film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children as a major character, now six years old. Unlike many of the other children in the film, she is unaffected by Geostigma. It can be noticed that in the film she is wearing her hair similar to the way Aerith wore hers.
Her role in the film is fairly large. Marlene recounts the story of Sephiroth and the events of Final Fantasy VII to the viewer at the beginning of the film. She is close to Denzel, caring for him when he is afflicted by Geostigma. She goes with Tifa to Aerith's church to look for Cloud, and is subsequently abducted by Loz and taken, with the other children, to the Forgotten Capital. There, she witnesses Kadaj's manipulation of the Geostigmatic children, including Denzel, and is forced to watch as Cloud takes on Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo. By the end, she is safely back in Edge with Denzel. In the last scene she is seen holding Barret's hand, symbolizing that their bond is still strong.
n Advent Children Complete, Marlene's role is expanded upon. After Loz takes her to the Forgotten Capital, she attempts to escape but Kadaj takes down a tree and blocks her off. When Cloud takes her back to 7th Heaven, they talk about why he left, which according to her, was either because he failed to find a cure for Denzel's Geostigma, or because he got the stigma as well. After Cloud replies that he could not care for himself let alone anyone else, Marlene impersonates Barret and tells Cloud not to give up. She also travels with Denzel and the other children of Edge after Aerith calls him on the bar upper floor's phone telling everyone to go to her church and wait for Cloud.

Taking a deep breath, the six year old girl stretched her body up as far she should could, trying to reach the top shelf on the nasty tall book shelf in the back of the library. She grunted and she propped her self onto the tips of her toes. The tips of her fingers barely brushed the bottom of the book that she wanted. What was with this library at Moogle Academy? Did they assume that little people didn't want to educate themselves too? That was so typical of the staff members around here, always thinking of the big people.
"This is no use!" Marlenne exclaimed.
A pouty look played it's self upon the small child's face. She'd ask for help, but she didn't want to get questioned about wanting a book on the art of sword fighting. That wouldn't be a good thing. Knowing her luck lately, they'd most likely phone Barret in a heart beat. It wasn't like she was planning to use the knowledge from the book any time soon, it was just with all the chaos going on lately, she wanted to make sure she had a few skills stored in her mind if push came to thread. Barret just wouldn't understand. He knew she wasn't a violent person in the least bit, but she was considered he might think that some of the people around here were rubbing off on her. He'd left her at Moogle Academy while he was out doing some wild mission, leaving Tifa and Cloud to watch out for her as per usual. She liked meeting all the tough people here, and she really didn't want to make him regret his decision. Marlene loved having the trust of her adoptive father.
